Natural News reports the presence of triclosan in human breast milk and plasma
Triclosan has long been used as a common ingredient in hand sanitizers, shampoo, soaps and toothpastes. But as the recent study by Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) shows, it also has a conspicuous presence in lakes, waterways, human breast milk and blood plasma. The Germany-based organization conducted extensive research on the quality of water in the Elbe River Basin with a completely unexpected result. It has been found that the water of the river in the region retains a much higher level of triclosan than it was previously supposed to do.
According to Natural News, the research has placed triclosan at sixth in its list of 500 most persistent and most harmful pollutants. Researchers opine that the triclosan level is more or less 12 times higher than the previously determined level at more than one test site. This high level of the harmful chemical highlights the indifference and inaction in monitoring efforts to contain the spread of triclosan. Though the chemical was first made available in 1972, it took more than a quarter of a century to determine its malicious effects. The most horrifying aspect of this chemical that concerns scientists most is its presence in the plasma of human blood and also in breast milk.
Lengthy exposure to triclosan may lead to the advent of certain diseases including heart problems and even cancer. Moreover, triclosan paves the way for superbugs that are resistant to antibiotics. Therefore, monitoring the use of triclosan is of primary importance but the government of the United States does not seem to be bothered with this alarming situation. The Food and Drug Administration sticks to the notion that triclosan is safe. However, thanks to the report from Natural News, this truth has been brought to light so people can be more conscious while using toothpastes, soaps and shampoo as most of them contain triclosan.
